4.1 Proposal
The research proposal is due by the deadline posted in the schedule.
Proposing your idea will allow me to provide feedback and guidance before you get into the major writing component of the project.
This solicited research proposal should follow the guidelines provided in Chapter 18 (see pg. 343 under "Research Proposals" for a definition and pg. 345 for an example of the format this proposal should follow). Use the formatting provided in the textbook example with two exceptions. Add an "Intended Audience" section, and modify the "Methods and Data Sources" section to be "Research Completed," where you should provide MLA or APA citations for at least five credible secondary sources you have located in the 3.1 Databases and Search Engines activity.
Thus, your headings should be:
Proposed Study: a brief summary of what you propose to research.
Statement of Problem: an overview of the problem that necessitates research and your qualifications to complete this research.
Intended Audience: the audience you envision reading this report and implementing your solutions (this should be a specific person/people).
Scope of Proposed Study: the steps you will take to complete the project.
Data Sources: five annotated sources that you have already gathered in your research.
Please submit your proposal via Google Docs.

Think About It
Audience Awareness
Your audience for this proposal is Dr. Harris, and your purpose for this proposal is to convince me that you have clearly identified a problem that needs to be addressed, an audience who can make a decision that will address the problem you identify, and that you have the qualifications and have completed the research to fully address the problem. In doing so, you will want to communicate clearly, concisely, fluently, and personably and address all of the required elements of the proposal.
Information Literacy
The proposal is an opportunity to put forth the research that you have already completed in addressing the problem and recommending a solution to the problem that you have identified. The "Data Sources" section should provide annotations of the sources that you have already identified and include correct citations of those sources according to either MLA or APA format.
Digital Literacy
You will be using Google Docs to submit this proposal so that I can immediately provide feedback or recommendations for improving the proposal and receiving permission to continue with the project you have outlined in the proposal. I will not give the go-ahead to complete the formal report until the proposal is satisfactory, so completing the proposal according to the guidelines is vital for your progress in the class. You should be able to access the comments that I leave on your Google Doc, and if necessary, respond to those comments in Google Docs or schedule a Google Chat with me in order to discuss your proposal.
