11.1 Action Plan
For your first step in your group project, you will discuss the project with your group and submit your group's Action Plan. Be sure that the action plan clearly identifies the roles of all of the group members (the template for the action plan is located on page 22 in your textbook). Because one of the elements of the plan is a synchronous meeting online with me in Week 12, you'll want to be sure to work together to schedule that time with me (i.e., identify one or two times that you can all meet and then contact me -- using formal email etiquette -- to request a meeting in Week Twelve).
Note: You can ignore the "Oral Briefing" section under "Specific Assignments." However, you should be more specific in the other categories on the Action Plan Template (i.e., "Drafting" should be "Drafting the First Webpage," "Drafting the Second Webpage" etc.).
The Action Plan should be submitted to me by the deadline posted in the Schedule. Share your Google Doc with myself and all group members (we will have the "meeting" in Week Twelve as a chat in this Google Doc area).

Think About It
Audience Awareness:
I will be evaluating this action plan on its ability to clearly communicate team roles and expectations. Much as with the proposal for the formal report, this action plan will provide a roadmap that I will expect you to follow as you complete the project according to the charges identified for your committee (see overview of the 13.1 Recommendation Report).
Collaboration:
Work together and work early to ensure that all voices get heard and all individuals are able to contribute to the project. Avoid just posting the Google Doc and letting everyone sign up for elements; this could result in the last person who signs up having the lion's share of the work, which will not bode well for your final project. Discuss with the group your strengths and weaknesses, your schedule constraints and conflicts, and any other information that you need to help you identify who will be best at managing which tasks. Because this is a LARGE project, you will need to quickly and efficiently distribute tasks under the guidance of a Project Manager to be able to create an effective project in three weeks.
Information Literacy:
At this stage, part of your goal is to identify the issues and problems that your colleagues will need to know in order to be better writers, so you might need to do some researching in order to establish what the needs of the audience are. To do so, you might research issues related to communication in your profession online or discuss with your group members what problems they face with technical writing that might serve as a starting point for creating this tutorial. In addition, you will want to review and understand areas of the book related to design and writing instructions to help your research in composing the final product. Information literacy at this stage involves all of the preparation (i.e., research) you need to undertake to fully understand how to complete the project.
Digital Literacy:
Identify the tools with which your group can most easily communicate. Is Skype a tool with which everyone is familiar? If so, schedule a Skype session to get started and work through the Action Plan. Perhaps hosting a chat in Google Docs is best for you. Or maybe you feel more comfortable communicating through email or the features available in your Groups area of Blackboard. Part of your goals as a group are to find the best and most efficient tools for completing group work effectively at a distance.
